As part of its season-opening Britten centenary celebrations, the London Philharmonic Orchestra is to give free performances of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde. The afternoon concerts, taking place on September 28 and October 12 in the Clore Ballroom of London’s Royal Festival Hall, will be conducted by Benjamin Ellin, featuring members of the LPO alongside school children from across London.
The events form part of the orchestra’s main three-programme tribute to Britten led by principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski: Peter Grimes in concert featuring Stuart Sketlon in the title role on September 26 at Symphony Hall in Birmingham and September 28 at the Royal Festival Hall; rare orchestral music featuring tenor Mark Padmore and cellist Truls Mørk on October 2 at the Royal Festival Hall; and the War Requiem featuring soprano Tatiana Monogarova, tenor Ian Bostridge and baritone Matthias Goerne in the Royal Festival Hall on October 12.
